Check your phone system status
Read the status tiles on Today and Compliance, understand each state, and know what to fix yourself.
Two surfaces report the health of a phone system: the tiles at the bottom of Insights > Today and the System status section on Settings > Compliance. Use them to separate a configuration gap you can close yourself from a platform condition that needs support. Every value on both surfaces belongs to the phone system named in the header.
Prerequisites
- The intended phone system selected in the header.
- Access to the Today page and the Compliance page for that system.
Read the Today tiles
Today ends with two tiles. A tile is green with All clear when nothing needs attention, and red with a short reason when something does. Selecting either tile opens the System status section on the Compliance page.
- E911 compliance — green when every active phone number has an emergency address assigned. Red reports how many numbers need attention.
- Phone health — green when calling is configured and recent calls are completing normally. Red shows one of SIP not configured, Elevated SIP error rate, or SIP service degraded.
Read the System status section
Open Settings > Compliance. The System status section holds three tiles and a compliance overview.
| Tile | What it reports |
|---|---|
| Call recording | Whether system recording is On or Off, and the same for extension-to-extension recording. |
| Configured phones | How many active phones hold the credentials they need to place and receive calls. |
| E911 compliance | The share of active phone numbers that have an emergency address, and how many active numbers exist. |
Configured phones counts configuration, not connectivity. It does not tell you whether a given desk phone is powered on, on the network, or currently reachable. A dash with SIP not configured means the phone system has no calling configuration yet, so the count cannot be produced.
Below the tiles, Compliance overview shows one row per compliance signal — E911 compliance, call recording, extension-to-extension recording, the inbound and outbound call notice, and the AI compliance notice. Each row carries a state and a short detail line.
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| OK | The signal is in its expected state. |
| Warning | The signal is off, partially configured, or has nothing to measure yet. |
| Needs attention | At least one active number is missing an emergency address. |
A Warning on the E911 row reading No active numbers configured means the system has no active numbers to measure — it is not a compliance failure. A Warning on a recording or notice row means that setting is currently off, which may be exactly what you intend; the state is a description, not an instruction.
Decide what to do next
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| E911 compliance below 100%, or Needs attention | Active numbers have no emergency address assigned. | Assign an address to each listed number yourself. |
| E911 row reads No active numbers configured | Nothing to measure yet. | Finish provisioning numbers, then re-check. |
| A recording or notice row reads Disabled | That setting is off for this phone system. | Decide with your own compliance obligations, then change it on the same page. |
| Call notice reads Enabled but no directions selected | The notice is on but plays on neither direction. | Select inbound, outbound, or both. |
| Configured phones shows a dash | Calling is not configured for this phone system. | Contact support. This is not a setting you change from the dashboard. |
| Elevated SIP error rate or SIP service degraded | A meaningful share of recent calls failed. | Contact support with the phone-system name and the time you saw it. Check Call Log for affected calls first. |
Nothing in System status changes a phone’s own configuration. If one device is misbehaving while the tiles are green, work from the device instead.
Expected result
You can say which signals are healthy, which need a configuration change you own, and which need support — and you have the phone-system name and time to hand for anything you escalate.
Troubleshooting
- Today shows a red tile but Compliance looks fine: The pages read the same data at different moments. Refresh Today and re-open the section before treating the difference as real.
- A tile shows a dash: The value has not loaded or cannot be produced for this phone system. Reload the page; if the dash persists alongside SIP not configured, contact support.
- E911 compliance does not move after assigning an address: Confirm the number is active and its address saved, then reload. A registration change that is still processing has not been counted yet.
- The compliance settings form will not save: Changing compliance settings needs an administrator role. Ask an administrator for the phone system to make the change.
- The page asks you to select a phone system: Choose the intended system in the header; both surfaces always report one system at a time.
