Sign in and choose a phone system
Confirm your account, active phone system, and access boundary before changing settings.
Use this check before making a change so it is applied to the intended phone system and within the access granted to your account.
Prerequisites
- A Steer Phones account with a verified email address.
- Access to at least one phone system, either already assigned or granted by an invitation.
Sign in and confirm the active system
- Open the Steer Phones dashboard. The dashboard redirects you to the identity provider when a sign-in is required.
- If you were invited, sign in with the same email address that received the invitation. Pending, non-expired invitations are applied when your account profile loads.
- Check the phone-system name in the header before opening a settings page.
- If your account can access multiple systems, open the header selector and choose the system you intend to manage. The selector shows your role for each system. With access to a single system, the header shows that name as plain text and there is nothing to choose.
- Use the user menu at the bottom of the navigation to log out when you are finished.
Every phone, extension, number, and setting belongs to one phone system. The dashboard uses the selected system for its requests, and the server checks that access again on every request. A hidden menu item or disabled action does not grant or remove authority by itself.
Your selection is remembered between sessions, so the next sign-in starts on the same system. If that system is no longer available to your account, the dashboard falls back to the first system you can access — check the header again before making a change.
Open a link that someone shared
A dashboard link can carry the shop it was about, so a recipient lands on the intended system rather than whichever one they last used.
- When the link names a system you can access, the dashboard switches to it, confirms with a Switched to … message, and then loads the record.
- When the link names a system you cannot access, the page content is replaced by No access to this shop. The navigation and the system selector stay usable, and Go to Overview clears the state.
- When you were signed out, you are sent to sign in first and returned to the page the link opened.
Expected result
The header names the intended phone system, its available pages reflect your current permissions, and records shown on those pages belong to that system.
Troubleshooting
- Sign-in does not finish: The sign-in page reports that it could not sign you in automatically and offers Sign in. Select it to retry rather than reloading repeatedly.
- No access: Confirm that you signed in with the invited email address. Ask an administrator for that phone system to check whether your invitation or access is still active.
- You reach a page saying you have no phone systems: Your account signed in successfully but is not attached to any system. Log out and ask an administrator to invite the address you used.
- A shared link names another shop: The dashboard shows No access to this shop instead of loading another system’s data. Choose an accessible system or return to Overview.
- A page is missing: The dashboard hides a section your current role cannot open. Ask an administrator to review your role rather than trying another system’s URL.
- Your access changed while you were signed in: Reload the page so the dashboard re-reads your permissions for the active system.
- The account profile fails to load: Use Retry. If it continues, capture the visible error without including tokens or private account data in a support message.
